Historical elements of the original Topel’s Lakeside Towing & Repair in Lake Mills are evident in the beautiful new 14,420-square-foot repair shop. Customers are greeted by a service tech just inside the entry and then invited to wait in the comfortable waiting room that includes a large television and a five-foot-long electric fireplace. The $3,153,000 design-build project was developed in cooperation with Angus Young Architects. The main service area features a six-foot-tall pre-cast wainscot around the service center to provide service techs with ample space to stack their tool boxes and equipment against outside walls in each of the ten service bays and not worry about damaging the white insulated metal panels that adorn the upper half of wall system. The entry is constructed of white block reminiscent of the original building and includes extensive storefront glass. The finishing touch of the project is the recommissioning of the distinctive orange “76” gas sign from the previous shop that greets visitors at the street entrance. Construction of the project began in October 2021 and was substantially complete in July 2022.
