The Current – Monona Riverfront

The Current 2 is a mechanical design/build, four-story apartment complex built over two levels of parking structure along the banks of the Yahara River. The building has underground public parking, first floor tenant parking, and 144 apartments on floors two through five. McGann Construction self-performed many areas of work including management, rough carpentry, finish carpentry, siding and specialties. This allowed the general contractor to maintain a strong site presence throughout the entire project to ensure quality of work was being met by all trades. Given the close proximity to Lake Monona and the Yahara River, water issues were a challenge during construction. Dewatering and design of a highly-efficient subslab drainage system with waterproofing was critical to the project’s success and functionality. Therefore, the DNR was involved to ensure all erosion control requirements were met and there was no contamination of the river or ground water quality. Through attention to detail, this beautiful property opened on time and on budget in December 2021 and is a great addition to the Yahara Riverfront redevelopment.
