With 850 stores in the U.S., Dick?s Sporting Goods contracted with WDS Construction to renovate a former Sears store into the first-ever Dick’s House of Sports in Victor, New York. The 120,000-square-foot “store of the future” has an outdoor track, indoor climbing wall, batting cage, putting green and golf simulator. Scheduling became difficult with most subcontractors because of a 55-day New York COVID-19 shut down prompting workforce shortages. Scheduing on the project changed multiple times. All city building departments were on limited work hours and closed to the public, which made scheduling inspections difficult. Executives flew in for at least 10 site visits, with each visit producing changes. Sitework and demolition was handled through a separate contract with the mall landlord. Once WDS completed the project, Dicks was not through making design changes, as they tried to prefect their new concept. As a result, work continued until very close to the opening date.
