Derrick Building Solutions handled the site development and construction for the 50,300-square-foot, pre-engineered Harris Rebar steel manufacturing facility. Rail service is essential to Harris Rebar?s business and there are few options for this type of site in the Twin Cities’ market. A raw site was located in Roberts, Wisconsin, but it required extensive storm water retention work and water/sewer and road extensions. Scheduling, communication and progress meetings were critical from the start to avoid oncoming winter conditions and because the owner was consolidating two locations with expiring leases. The foundation and slab for the building was poured with in-floor heat at 8 inches to support the heavy weight of train cars and fabrication equipment. Erection of the structure was completed in three weeks. Three cranes were installed in the fabrication area, including one five-ton and two three-ton cranes. Both office and fabrication areas were completed ahead of schedule.
