ABC of Wisconsin supports bill to get Wisconsinites back to work

Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI)

MADISON, May 27, 2021 — Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin President John Mielke issued the following statement regarding the National Signing Bonus Act of 2021 announced by Congressman Mike Gallagher. The legislation repurposes the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) as a “signing bonus” to encourage individuals to return to work prior to July 4. The bill is designed to address the workforce shortage in Wisconsin and other states:

“Wisconsin is reopening, and we need a pro-recovery plan to get people working again and help address the critical worker shortages preventing the economy from making a recovery,” said John Mielke, president of Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin. “On behalf of our 900 member companies who build Wisconsin, we commend Congressman Gallagher’s effort to change the incentive from one that discourages work to one that encourages to work.”
