ABC joins coalition to slow spread of COVID

By Kyle Schwarm, ABC of Wisconsin Marketing & Communication Director

MADISON, Oct. 26, 2020 – ABC of Wisconsin is joining more than 30 other statewide organizations to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The decision was made by members of Board of Directors after the chapter was approached to be part of the coalition.

“Wisconsin is facing challenges with the COVID-19 crisis, placing our healthcare facilities at fairly high capacities in some areas. ABC of Wisconsin is doing its part to promote smart safety practices to reduce the spread of the virus,” said John Mielke, ABC of Wisconsin president.

Participation in the coalition simply means ABC of Wisconsin is adding its name to the list of organizations lending support to slowing the spread of the disease. The “Stop the COVID Spread!” coalition seeks to reach as many residents in Wisconsin as possible about the need for preventative measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 across the state.

Former Wisconsin Governor, United States Secretary of Health and Human Services, and current University of Wisconsin System President Tommy Thompson encourages Wisconsin residents to stay safe in on public service announcement. The University of Wisconsin System is one of the members of the recently launched “Stop the COVID Spread!” coalition.

“Each of us has it in our power to turn things around,” says Gov. Thompson in the ad. “It’s time to mask up, buckle down, wash your hands, maintain social distance. C’mon Wisconsin, together we can do this.”

Prominent Wisconsin health care and business organizations form a coalition in an effort to slow the virus.

The initial five-figure campaign includes a 30-second video that will run as a public service announcement on broadcast channels statewide, as well as a paid digital campaign including video and banner ads.

“As Wisconsin continues to face an uphill battle against COVID-19, it is more important now than ever that we take precautionary measures and shoulder the responsibility of protecting one another together,” said Eric Borgerding, Wisconsin Hospitals Association president and CEO.

“The direct and indirect impacts of COVID spread in our communities are increasingly stressing our outstanding health care system and continuing to challenge our health care heroes – those nurses, custodians, doctors, technicians and many others who keep working long hours behind masks, behind face shields, in gowns and gloves, to keep WI’s great health care accessible and safe,” he said.

The ad campaign follows the launch of the “Stop the COVID Spread!” coalition. In the week since launch, the coalition has grown significantly to include more than 30 businesses, health care and advocacy groups and professional sports teams from around the state.

Several Green Bay Packer players participate in a statewide broadcast TV PSA and digital ad campaign in an effort to slow the virus.
