While the dust may have settled from the election, we are still looking at the political future through the Tyndall effect.
NATIONALLY
ABC endorsed Donald Trump wins second presidency, GOP takes back US Senate with at least 53 seats (and counting). For all the caterwauling from Democrats about the evils of the electoral college, Trump won the popular vote by at least 4 million votes, gaining ground with college voters (even flipping a UW LAX student ward), women, and people of color – nearly winning a majority of Latino voters
Thanks to Biden/Harris inflation – $1.4 Billon doesn’t buy as much as it once did. While the Democratic presidential campaign spent $400 million more than Donald Trump, they lost every swing state, including the union-funded “blue wall” in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
WISCONSIN
Wisconsin voter turnout was at least 72.5% – about 4.7 million people.
Trump carried Wisconsin by the largest margin in a Wisconsin presidential election in twelve years. While he underperformed in the WOW counties (Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington), he had small and steady gains nearly everywhere else in the state.
Incumbent Democrat US SEN Baldwin barely defeated GOP businessman Eric Hovde, thanks in part to a Democratic funded far right candidate.
In spite of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin raising nearly $60 million (twice as much as the Wisconsin GOP Party), and an additional $10 million from outside groups:
- The state congressional delegation remained the same (still 6 GOP to 2 DEM, and new NE WI GOP Congressman Tony Wied has a 100% score on the federal ABC legislative survey).
- Republicans still hold control of both houses of the Wisconsin legislature (although their majorities were narrowed)
- Did I mention that GOP Donald Trump won Wisconsin?
Wisconsin voters approved nearly 80% of school referendum requests, raising property taxes by $3.4 billion.
TBD:
There are still two US Senate races (AZ and NV) to be decided.
There are 15 west coast congressional races that to be decided that will determine which party controls the House of Representatives.
WHAT’S NEXT:
Thanks to the generosity of ABC of WI members, we spent an unprecedented amount to re-elect and defend our champions. Now it is important to have dry powder. Please help replenish the ABC of WI PAC by donating here.
