WISCONSIN DELLS, Feb. 10, 2022 — Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin celebrated 50 years as a chapter with a fun celebration in Wisconsin Dells this week. The celebration included recognition of past chairs/presidents of the organization, a retrospective documentary video on how the chapter was founded and a great performance by the Milwaukee Tool Shed Band.
“It was an amazing evening for everyone to look back and could not have gone better,” said ABC of Wisconsin President John Mielke. “The celebration gives us pause for a glimpse back and acknowledge the debt of gratitude to the many members who fought the hard battles that came before us.”
The celebration included membership recruitment awards, including the Hall of Fame Beam Club recognition for Dan Bertler of Supreme Structures for excellences in membership recruitment over the years and a presentation of ABC past-chair vests for the past board chairs who could make it to the event. 2021 Chair of the Board, Casey Malesevich, also did the formal gavel pass to 2022 Chair Jim Bunkelman. We also recognized four companies that have been members for all 50 years, including Miller Masonry, Huotari Construction, Suburban Enterprises and Melvin Companies.
The chapter was among several founded in 1972, as contractors in Wisconsin and around the country said enough is enough. Wisconsin needed an organization to fight for free enterprise in construction for right to run their businesses without third-party union interference.
As a result of those efforts, ABC of Wisconsin is arguably the strongest chapter of the 69, providing excellent professional development, education, safety and perhaps most importantly, a voice for the merit construction.
