The Woods – A GreatLife Community is a series of connected one-story units nestled on 11.57 wooded acres, which provides a serene environment for residents. The project was originally designed as a three-story senior living facility; however, the COVID pandemic sparked a desire in the owner to change the traditional layout of senior living facilities to a new, unique community. He wanted to create a home-like community with private front-door access to the outdoors, as well as direct access to shared community amenities from each unit. The large lot was a well-saturated wetland and required significant soil stabilization before work to build access roads, retention ponds and the 120 units of extended ranch-style buildings could begin. And both the assisted and independent living buildings are one-story units with attached common areas requiring large wood span structures that created complexities during construction. While challenges peppered the project, the amenity rich facilities are unique and beautiful. The common areas accessible from every unit include hair salons, dining rooms, community rooms, fitness rooms and more. The home-like feel extends to its accessible parking, with an underground parking lot for community residents and street parking near individual units for visitors.
