NoVo Apartments

Located on a prominent, underutilized city block in Madison, referred to as Judge Doyle Square, NoVo Apartments is an iconic urban infill redevelopment that offers a unique residential living experience. With the goal of bringing both market rate and much needed affordable housing to the city’s downtown, NoVo delivers a striking balance of modern architecture with clean, welcoming urban interiors and robust lifestyle and wellness amenities while showcasing innovative sustainable design strategies. Building a new apartment building over an existing and operational parking garage certainly came with its challenges and required a lot of forward thinking. Constant pedestrian traffic required scaffolding with cover walkways around the perimeter. Perhaps most distinct is the large curve design feature along the east elevation that was constructed using segmented concrete forms and pre-fabricated steel stud wall panels. There are also a few different types and colors of metal panel façade that needed to be carefully constructed with special attention to the reveals and straight lines that tie the entire building together.
