Petskull Brewing Company

The Petskull Brewing project incorporated the true essence of a collaborative design/build project on a 113-year-old building in historic downtown Manitowoc. The jobsite was in the middle of a municipal facilities development, making access a challenge at times. Nothing on the existing structure was level, square, or plumb. Windows and doors were replaced with historically accurate units and original building elements, such as wood floors, which were salvaged or preserved and reused as finish materials inside the space. The preservation of the original cream city brick was important, so the interior and exterior were blasted with baking soda to remove decades of dirt and discoloration. Delays in material deliveries prompted A.C.E. Building Service to find a new manufacturer at a minimal cost difference. The exterior walls also needed to be structurally reinforced and tuck-pointed. The transformation returned the exterior of the building to how it looked in 1908.
